MEAC-Accredited Program Additional Clinical Experience Requirements
In addition to documenting graduation or completing all graduation requirements from a MEAC-accredited school/program, candidates must submit documentation of:
- attendance at two planned hospital births;
- attendance at five home births; and
- 10 births in a community setting, functioning in the role of Primary Midwife or Primary Under Supervision. for at least.
The 10 births completed as Primary Midwife or Primary Under Supervision must:
- have occurred within the last three years with clinical training documentation spanning a minimum of two years;
- have taken place in the United States or Canada; and
- be documented using the forms and verification methods required by NARM.
Clinical experience completed as part of the candidate’s educational program may be used to meet these requirements when it satisfies NARM’s criteria for setting, role, timing, supervision, and documentation.
NARM may require additional records or verification to confirm that the submitted experience meets pathway requirements. Graduation from an accepted program does not waive these additional clinical requirements.
Recency of Clinical Experience
Candidates are expected to apply for CPM certification within three years of graduation from an accepted midwifery education program.
A candidate who applies more than three years after graduation, or whose application remains incomplete beyond the timeframe established by NARM, will be required to document additional or more recent clinical experience before becoming eligible for certification. The type and amount of additional documentation required will be determined according to NARM’s current clinical-recency requirements.
