PEP Examination Eligibility

A PEP candidate may become eligible to take the NARM Exam after NARM has reviewed and accepted the required application materials for Phases 1 through 3, Skills Verification, references, and other required documentation required before examination approval.

Before authorizing the candidate to test, NARM must determine that the candidate:

  • meets the General Requirements for All Candidates that apply at the examination stage;
  • has completed the required Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 clinical experience;
  • has submitted the required Skills Verification documentation;
  • has provided the required references and supporting materials;
  • has resolved any deficiencies identified during application review; and
  • has paid all applicable fees.

When these requirements have been accepted, NARM will notify the candidate of eligibility and provide instructions for registering and scheduling the examination.

Approval to take the NARM Exam confirms only that the candidate has met the requirements necessary to proceed to testing. It does not indicate CPM certification and does not authorize the candidate to use the CPM designation.

The candidate must pass the NARM Exam and complete Phase 4 and any other outstanding requirements before the CPM credential may be awarded.

Completion and Award of Certification

The CPM credential is awarded only after NARM has determined that the candidate has satisfied all applicable certifications requirements, and that no outstanding Accountability case exists.

For PEP candidates, this includes:

  • completion and acceptance of Phases 1 through 3;
  • completion and acceptance of all required Skills Verification;
  • submission and acceptance of required references and supporting documentation;
  • successful completion of the NARM Exam;
  • completion and acceptance of Phase 4;
  • current adult CPR and advanced neonatal resuscitation certification;
  • resolution of any outstanding application deficiencies, audit requests, or documentation requirements; and
  • payment of all applicable fees.

Phase 4 births may be completed before or after the candidate passes the NARM Exam. If completed after the exam, they must be submitted within the timeframe established by NARM.

After all requirements have been reviewed and accepted, NARM will issue the CPM credential and notify the candidate of the effective date of certification. Candidates may not use the CPM designation or represent themselves as NARM-certified until NARM has formally awarded the credential.

Award of the CPM credential does not constitute licensure or legal authorization to practice. Certificants are responsible for complying with all laws and regulations that apply in the jurisdiction(s) where they practice.
